A Charles I Oak Table with Enclosed Cupboard

A rare type of Charles I table, or cupboard. The well patinated boarded top, over a small panelled door. The frame, decorated with run mouldings. The corner pieces extending down into a squat balluster leg, which are joined by stretchers. It is difficult to work out whether this was merely intended as a side table for displaying pewter, or perhaps serving food, which could then be stored in the cupboard below. The whole piece is of a terrific, untouched colour, which extends to a beautiful dry surface on the back and undersides.
