An Early 17th Century Escutcheon of Arms

The centre panel, with original polychrome decoration, is divided into quarter and three quarter, with calipers on a cream ground, and lions rampant on a dark green ground. Set within a flamboyantly carved cartouche, with a stylised fleur de lis crest and scrolling leaves to the sides and base.

The whole coat of arms is carved and shaped from a single piece of walnut.

Possibly English (the lions rampant would suggest this), circa 1600-50.

Width 17 inches by height 16 inches.
