A Fabulous Small George I Oak Dresser

The rack, with deep overhanging canopy, has a well-shaped top rail set beneath a lovely moulded cornice, which over time has slightly bowed to a most pleasing appearance. The rack sides are well-shaped and finish on short feet, which sit upon the boarded top of the dresser.

Three small working drawers above a fixed central panel flanked by a pair of cupboard doors, with exceptional arched and raised panels (the doors contain a lovely concealed locking mechanism). Again, like most Welsh furniture, the joiner has used oak for all his drawer linings, backboards and bottom boards.

Wonderful nutty brown colour, which has mellowed with use to form a lovely original “skin”.

Merioneth (North Wales), circa 1720.

Width 55.5 inches, depth 22 inches, height 72 inches.
