A Fine and Rare 17th Century English Carved and Polychrome Coat of Arms

The crest, of a crowned lion, standing on a royal crown, flanked by scrolling leaves, and above the Royal Coat of Arms of England, surrounded by a buckled garter with the motto “Honi soit qui mal y pense” (Evil (or shame) be to him that evil thinks), supported by a crowned lion and a unicorn, beneath whose forelegs is the Tudor rose and Scottish thistle. The lion and unicorn stand on a banner, with Elizabeth I’s motto “Semper eadem” (Ever (or always) the same).

A most interesting and highly decorative coat of arms, showing the Order of the Garter. The carving and polychrome decoration in lovely untouched condition.
