A Good Cromwellian Oak Gateleg Table
Having a thick plank top, constructed of substantial wide boards, all showing exceptionally fine grain. Supported on heavy bobbin-turned legs, joined by similarly turned stretchers, standing on the original turned feet, or "toes".
"Bobbin-turnings" of this type are normally associated with furniture made in Derbyshire, and although colour is not really an indication of a region, this very rich, dark oak is again a northern peculiarity.
Exceeding good colour and patina.
Derbyshire, circa 1660.
Top 47 inches by 60 inches, height 30 inches.
