A Late 17th Century Oak Panel Back Side Chair
A most unusual single chair. The top rail with integral crest, which has delicate scrolls and stylised Tudor roses to either side of a central lozenge. The large and well carved central panel is contained within a deeply moulded frame and is typical of the quatrefoil designs found on Gloucestershire and Somerset furniture. The bottom rail to the back and seat rail to the front are beautifully carved with interlaced half-moons, again typical of Gloucestershire. The heavy leg turnings are a simple baluster joined by moulded square stretchers.
