A Rare Charles I Dated Hanging Food Cupboard
Having boarded back, top, bottom and sides, the front is framed, creating a single panel and larger single door. The single panel is carved with a stylised leaf design, whilst the door has a double “S” scroll with tight whorls to the centres. The symmetrically carved top rail is carved with a series of interlaced lunettes, which again have a stylised leaf in each centre. To either end of the rail is the date 1647, which is totally correct for the style of carving and construction of the cupboard.
Gloucestershire, 1647.
Width 29.5 inches, height 23.5, depth 11 inches.
