A Wonderful Pair of Late Medieval Oak Corbels

Having a bold half-round convex bolection moulding to each end of the corbel, embellished with lines of deep gouge carving. The centre concave section, filled with a large stylised lion's head, or mask, with rich, curly mane, grinning outstretched lips, protuding tongue and pointed teeth.

English, circa 1450-1500.
